Comment INFORMA 11.11.2011
Tables and graphs reformatted to paper publication standards. Text adapted for EN language. Some the text was quite lengthy and repeating much of the data in the tables/graphs - this was shortened. Some text was moved to follow more closely the standard document structure of a YB article (e.g. moving sections of text with no analysis out of the section titled main findings). Many reference years were not detailed in the text and so comparisons between say 2004 and 2007 were not highlighted to the reader (these were adapted accordingly). SPECIFIC CHANGES TO XLS FILE - marked with a yellow tab in the XLS file
Figure 1 - only the data for industry appears to be available on Eurobase, will the other two values be added to the on-line database before the YB is released?
"Georgescu Marina 30.11.2010""- Comment related to figure 1: Yes, you are right. The rest of the data are estimations that we have done, but are not yet published. They will be published soon, but not before the release of the YB 2011. In case you find this unacceptable, the figure and corresponding text might be deleted.
Figure 2 - only the values for industry appear to be available on Eurobase, will the other values for special producers and for the public sector be added to the on-line database before the YB is released?
"Georgescu Marina 30.11.2010"- Comment related to figure 2: Yes, you are right. Some data are estimations that we have done, but are not yet published. They will be published soon, but not before the release of the YB 2011. In case you find this unacceptable, the figure and corresponding text might be deleted.
Figure 3 - the value for non-core domain is not available on Eurobase, will this value be added to the on-line database before the YB is released?
"Georgescu Marina 30.11.2010"- Comment related to figure 3: No, data for the non-core domains will not be available before the publication of the YB 2011.I would suggest to delete from the graph the non-core part and to leave the graph just for the rest of the domains: air, wastewater and waste(which ). The name of the graph will than be "Figure 3: Public sector environmental protection expenditure by core environmental domain, EU-25, 2006 (1)"
Figure 4 - data from before 2004 was removed from the graph - YB editorial rule is to go back no more than two years from the reference period in the title. Information was added to the source for GDP. The data for the EU-25 is not available in Eurobase, will this value be added to the on-line database before the YB is released?
"Georgescu Marina 30.11.2010"- Comment related to figure 4: agree with your changes. The data for EU25 will not be added in Eurobase before the publication of the YB 2011. If you consider appropriate, please delete it from the table.
Figure 5 - data from before 2004 was removed from the graph - YB editorial rule is to go back no more than two years from the reference period in the title.
"Georgescu Marina 30.11.2010"- Comment related to figure 5: if this is the rule, i agree with your changes.
Figure 6 - In the graph presented on SE as an image there was an extra category called "not classified", but there is no data for this in the underlying XLS table or on Eurobase; it was merged with the 'other' column. There are a number of not availables (N/A). These should be replaced - if they represent zero, then a zero or a dash (-) can be inserted. If they are really not available, then the country concerned should be excluded from the graph (as 100% is not known) and it would be misleading to show a stacked bar when the total is unknown (those categories for which data do exist will be overstated). Can these N/A values be converted to "-"?
"Georgescu Marina 30.11.2010"- Comment related to figure 6: The category "not classified" appeared by mistake in the initial graph(it has no relation with the topic of env. protection expenditure), therefore, your changes are perfectly fine, there is no need to add anything in the column "other". Concerning the "N/A", these are really not available data, but these countries do report for other env. domains and i do not think it is fair to delete them from the table becausxe they have lots of "N/A". This is the real situation in the given conditions of a "Gentleman' s agreement" data collection. I think the standard formats in case of non-availability of data should be followed.
Figure 7 - data from before 2004 was removed from the graph - YB editorial rule is to go back no more than two years from the reference period in the title. Information was added to the source for GDP. The data for the EU-25 is not available in Eurobase, will this value be added to the on-line database before the YB is released?
"Georgescu Marina 30.11.2010"- Comment related to figure 7: agree with your changes. The data for EU25 will not be added in Eurobase before the publication of the YB 2011. If you consider appropriate, please delete it from the table. Figure 8 - changed the reference period to 2007 as there was more data for this year than for any other. Data from before 2005 was removed from the graph - YB editorial rule is to go back no more than two years from the reference period in the title. Changed a large number of the footnotes for reference years which had been mixed up (although none of the specific values in the table for any of the MS changed, just the ref. years).
"Georgescu Marina 30.11.2010"- Comment related to figure 8: ok, thank you for this changes Figure 9 - data from before 2004 was removed from the graph - YB editorial rule is to go back no more than two years from the reference period in the title. Information was added to the source for GDP. The data for the EU-25 and EU-15 was removed as there was data available for EU-27.
"Georgescu Marina 30.11.2010"- Comment related to figure 9: ok, agree with your changes, thank you. Figure 10 - data for CY and for the EU-27 was added (found in Eurobase, but not present in the XLS). The data for the EU-25 was removed as there was data available for EU-27.
"Georgescu Marina 30.11.2010"- Comment related to figure 10: agree with your changes, thank you very much for these.
Once confirmation is received that these changes in the XLS file are OK, then the image files will be generated for the SE article.
