Glossary:Asylum application withdrawn

Print this page

Withdrawn asylum application is an act that ends the procedure initiated by the submission of an application for international protection.

We distinguish between explicit and implicit withdrawal of the application. Explicit withdrawal means that the applicant explicitly withdraws his or her application for international protection because he or she no longer needs international protection and notifies the authorities to close the application.

Implicit withdrawal means that the national authorities initiate the closure of an asylum application because there is reasonable cause to consider that an applicant has terminated or abandoned his or her application. These are cases where the asylum seeker has failed to respond to requests to provide information essential to his or her application or has not appeared for a personal interview or has absconded or left without authorisation the place where he or she lived or was held.
