- Bonjour Dominique,

I've done the first couple of paragraphs, but there is inconsistent (and incorrect) capitalisation. Trademark is one word in EN. This should all be corrected before publication. This is done (LCN) Tim Allen 14-4-2015
Consistency tables/text Louise Corselli-Nordblad 14/4/2015:
- "The leading countries in terms of the annual growth rate in CTM applications between 2012 and 2013 were: Iceland (232%), Croatia (198%), Greece (58%), Malta (37%), Slovenia (29%), Poland (28%), Hungary (27%), Ireland (27%) and Lithuania (23%) (see Figure 2). " => Either only comment on Member States and then exclude Iceland or comment on all countries and then include Turkey, Liechtenstein etc.
- "According to the average number of designs filed during the period 2003-2013, the leading European countries in design protection in European Union were Germany (16 458), Italy (9 419), France (5 858), the United Kingdom (4 590) and Spain (3 801). United States (7 573), China (excl. Hong Kong) (4 008) and Japan (2 564), were the leading non-EU countries in Community design protection during 2013." => KR has 2593 and should be mentioned.
- "Countries, such as Austria, Itally and Denmark seek protection for a relatively high number of design applications per billion GDP, when compared to other countries. " => Should not DE be mentioned which has 6.8?
- Figures and tables:
- Hypens are missing for EU28 everywhere (should be EU-28, like in the text).
- Would be good to spell out the names of the countries in table 1 and 2 and figure 2 and 5.
- Fig 2 and fig 5: country names should not go over the bars (should be placed below).
- Figure 3: Should the scale on the Y axis be 94% to 100%?
- Fig 5: Base should start at 0 and not -10%.
Again not great EN. I've done a rapid edit of the main problems... Tim Allen 22nd April 2016

I have checked the above-mentioned article in Statistics Explained and have the following comments on the text and the graphs: Text content
- Could you please let us know when you expect the next update to be as this should be mentioned in the article?
- Under the section "An overview of CD protection activity at Worldwide, EU-28 and national level" you have written the number of design filings for UK is 6089, however according to the table it should be 4780. Could you please clarify which is correct?
- Under "Data sources and availability" it is written: With the entry into force of Regulation (EU) No 2015/2424 amending the European Union trade mark regulation on 23 March 2016, OHIM became the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and the European Union trade mark became the European Union trade mark. – is there a difference or is this an error?
- the following link will not work as it is not possible to upload docs in SE. It would be better if you could upload the document onto your dedicated section of the Eurostat website and then we could insert that link into the article:
(File:EUTM and design applications, high figures per GDP and population-the role of provided motivations on IPR protection.docx)
Graphs
- Table 1 and Table 2: in the tables in column "average number per year" the figures are listed to one decimal place, but not when mentioned in the text. Could the table be changed in order to be consistent or would you prefer to keep the decimal in the table?
- Figure 2 and Figure 6: we have amended the country order so that countries are now listed according to their protocol group, ie EU aggregate, MS, EFTA, candidate, rest of world, but still ranked (this follows the guidelines set out in the statistics explained tutorial on country codes and protocol order).
- Figure 3 and Figure 7: there is a footnote in the excel files, but this is not included in the online graphs. Should it be included?
- The titles of the tables and figures should correspond more to the data presented and not the date of updating, and also not have abbreviations. As an example we have amended the title of Figure 1. If this is ok with you, I will continue with all the others. I would be grateful if you could please take a look at this and let me know what you think. Once I have your reply I can make the changes accordingly and upload the files for you.
