A cohort is a group of people (i.e. subjects) who have shared a particular experience during a specified period of time. For instance, people born in 1985 would constitute that year's birth cohort. The term can also be used in a broader senee, to denote membership of a group affected by some factor other than time, such as working in a certain industry.
