Glossary:EUROPOP2008

Print this page

EUROPOP2008 refers to the 2008-based population projections of Eurostat covering all European Union (EU) Member States as well as some other European countries. Population projections are ‘what-if’ scenarios that aim to provide information about the likely future size and structure of the population, presenting one of several possible population change scenarios based on assumptions for fertility, mortality and migration for the period considered.

Besides population projections at national level, regional EUROPOP2008 population projections are also calculated. They are based on the latest Nomenclature of territorial units for statistics, NUTS/2006, in force from 1 January 2008. The current regional EUROPOP2008 population projections cover the EU regions at NUTS 2 level (the four French overseas departments are not included) and are fully consistent with national projections.
