The EU survey on ICT usage and e-commerce in enterprises is an annual survey conducted since 2002, collecting data on the use of information and communication technology, e.g. the internet, enterprise websites and social media, e-business, e-commerce in enterprises, ICT security, Internet of Things (IoT), data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing services and ICT and the environment.
Main characteristics:
- statistical unit: enterprise
- reference period: Current situation in the reference year for most variables, the previous calendar year for selected variables, e.g. ICT specialists or e-commerce variables;
- recommended survey periods: First quarter of the reference year;
- scope/target population: enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed persons in chosen activities (see below), optionally enterprises with number of employees and self-employed persons between 0 and 9;
- activity coverage[1] starting from 2009: enterprises classified in the NACE Rev. 2 headings:
- Section C (manufacturing);
- Sections D and E (electricity, gas and steam, water supply, sewerage and waste management);
- Section F (construction);
- Section G (wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles);
- Section H (transportation and storage);
- Section I (accommodation and food service activities);
- Section J (information and communication);
- Section L (real estate activities);
- Section M (professional, scientific and technical activities);
- Section N (administrative and support activities);
- Group 95.1 (repair of computers and communication equipment) — since 2010;
- Geographic scope: enterprises located in any part of the territory of the country.
