When used in conjunction with a statistical indicator, such as GDP or income, per capita (Latin: "per head") indicates the average per person in a group. The group referred to can be based upon many criteria (gender, age, socio-economic status, or any combination), but it usually is the entire population of a country, region, or the European Union.
